What does all this mean?
This tool runs standard MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and Blacklist checks in parallel. It calculates an overall health grade (A+ through F) and provides a prioritized list of tasks to improve your email delivery.
What is email health, in plain English?
Email health is a measure of how securely your domain is configured to send and receive emails. When you send a message, receiving mail servers (like Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo) run several security checks on your domain to verify that the email actually came from you, and not a spamer impersonating your brand.
What do these five checks measure?
- MX (Mail Exchange): Confirms that your domain has configured mail servers to receive emails. If this fails, you cannot receive incoming mail.
- SPF (Sender Policy Framework): Lists the servers authorized to send emails on behalf of your domain.
- DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail): Adds a cryptographic signature to your emails, proving they weren’t altered in transit.
- DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance): Tells receiving servers what to do (e.g. do nothing, spam, or reject) if an email fails SPF or DKIM.
- Blacklist Status: Checks if your mail or website server IP addresses are listed on public lists of spam senders.
How is the grade calculated?
We assign a maximum of 100 points across the five checks based on their importance:
- DMARC: 25 points (the standard of modern email security).
- MX, SPF, DKIM: 20 points each.
- Blacklist: 15 points.
A passing grade (A+, A, or B) means your domain has secure, aligned records and a clean sending reputation.
